Last Minute Ways to Spread Holiday Cheer

Okay, to be fair, if you're Jewish like me, it's a little late to spread the word about the Hanukkah miracle. But the holiday season lasts all month, and just because you celebrate one holiday or another for religious reasons doesn't mean you can't spread holiday cheer all season long. Here are some last minute ways to get in on the holiday spirit!

Caroling
As Buddy the Elf would say "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear." And yes, I know it's cheesy. And seems like something only Hugh Grant and his bodyguard in Love Actually can pull off. But sometimes cheesy things are the most fun! Grab a few friends, throw on a festive scarf and some Santa hats, and go caroling. (P.S. Full disclosure, I've never done this. But it's on my bucket list!)

Bake Christmas Cookies
Who doesn't love Christmas cookies!? If you want to spread a little joy to your fellow co-workers who didn't take vacation before Christmas, or help out those neighbors whose kids have come home from college and seem to be eating them out of house and home, Christmas cookies are the way to joy. Bake a few different varieties, stick them in a festive goodie bag, and pop them on the doorstep. Voila! Instant Christmas cheer.

Volunteer
Read to kids at school, bring cookies to a nursing center, build gingerbread houses at a local orphanage, or pick up last minute gifts for an Angel Tree recipient. Whatever your cause, your time is sure to put a smile on at least one face. And nothing feels better during the holiday season than giving back to those less fortunate than yourself. Remember, if you have food on the table and loved ones beside you, you're doing pretty well. Need help finding a place to volunteer? Try Volunteer Match

Donate Blood
Did you know that each time you donate blood, you save 3 lives? There's currently a blood shortage across many cities in the United States, and every little bit helps. If you're eligible, find your nearest donation center, take an hour out of your day, and help save lives. Most places accept walk-ins, and many have holiday blood drives going on right now. To find out if you're eligible, visit the American Red Cross's website. My friends and I donated this weekend, and I promise, it only took an hour. For some, it takes even less! Sign up today.
